What is GRACIE | BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU ? A martial art created by Carlos and Helio Gracie – late 1920s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jiu-Jitsu is known for its ground fighting submission-forward techniques – chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulation. Rooted in self defense the practitioner avoids reliance on physical strength and weapons. The aim of Jiu-Jitsu is to control and submit an adversary through the use of movement, leverage, and connection. In essence it teaches any person how to defend themselves regardless of their physical attributes, by technically manipulating force and power rather than confronting it.
For children practicing Jiu-Jitsu establishes a foundation in body awareness, confidence and self-defense. A Jiu-Jitsu class teaches children to think creatively, solve problems and focus their attention. Children build mobility, coordination and community in a disciplined, safe and fun environment.
